Question

I currently bought a house with the help of a city program where I live. On the forms I wrote that I was single and was the only one living in the house. Legally I am single. However, my significant other is in the military and we had a small religious ceremony in another country- but it was never legal and he doesnt live with me. Now the city is threatening to prosecute me for fraud. Have I committed fraud

Answer

If the location where you were married considers you married, then you are married. Why do you claim it was never legal?
