Question

i started a lease up with a rental place, and they didnt tell me all the problems it had with it, holes in floors, walls, and heating and cooling problems, i tripped the other day while holding my 10 month old little girl and sprained my ankle, and i called and told them and they were very mean and rude towards me, and i asked when they were going to fix the problems they told me, next week. and they have been telling me this for a month now, the maitenance would come and fix a little bit, like the little problems but not the floors falling in and what not, and we told them we have to move out due to it bveing unsafe for our 2 kids and they said we will sue you for 2500 if you do. so my question is, can i get out of being sued due to needing to move due to it being unsafe for my kids

Answer

You did not indicate where the rental property is located. If your town has a building codes office, you might report the issues to them. If the building is deemed unfit, they can no longer charge rent.

You didn't indicate the amount of your rent. If it is low, perhaps it is because it us assumed that the conditions aren't luxurious.

Neither did you indicate why you accepted this property, if it was in such bad condition. Did you do a pre-move in walk through?

Good luck
