Have been told that the removal of an oak tree is illegal in New Orleans, LA. Cannot find any statute online to support that claim in regards to personal property. Is there such a statute, and if so, does it only apply to a particular variety/breed of oak tree? The trunk of the tree is on our property and only the branches extend over public/city property. Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

I believe there is a municipal ordinance in the code of ordinance about the city's "urban forest". The City of New Orleans Municipal Code of Ordinances is online. Google it and you can search through it. You will have to deal with the city and get their permission to cut it down. Don't act without their permission, as you could be fined.
