Question

My sister is 65 and is having trouble with her memory. She would like to put her daughter on her accounts so she can take care of her estate if she unable. Her daughter is a single mom of two on goverment assistants. Will doing this make her lose her assistants and childrens health care? Her estate is small. A house worth 150,000.00 and 30,000.00 in retirement.

Answer

So long as your sister is not an owner of the accounts, it should not affect her benefits. It sounds like it is time for Mom to sit down with an attorney and do some estate planning, as well as sign advanced medical directives, powers of attorney, etc. Find an attorney in your area who practices estate planning and elder law, who can assist her. It will be money well spent.
