Question

My roommate and I were evicted. While the papers were at court, my roommate's mother and the apartment manager signed a release for my roommate. His mother signed as "power of attorney". I did not sign my roommate off the lease- his name is on the court papers but the manager refuses to go after him for the money we owe. Now the debt is only in my name. Is that legal?

Answer

It depends. Why did the mother sign for your roomate. Is your roomate disabled? Why did the manager release the other person. Need a whole lot more info here.
