What is a fish quotas?

What is a fish quotas?
This appears to be relevant to European Fishing Policy. Each country which has a fishing fleet of any size and nature will have a Europen Directive stating HOW MUCH fish in weight and at what seasons the fish may be caught. The "quota" is a weight maximum of each species that may be caught on any "trip"/ season. Sadly when trawler captains exceed these weights they will dump the fish. which are by now dead as they are open to have spot inspection by fisheries inpectors. If they ARE found to exceed the allcated quota the Captain will receive substancial fines and can in certain circumstance have their boat impounded. Consider looking through the Eurpoean Parliment websites for more specific information
