Urgent! What age does a child have to be to go to court to choose which parent to live with in Texas? The child in question is 15.



Answer

A child never gets to actually choose. Not unless they are 18 year-old adults. Once a child turns 12, it is permissible to advise the court what their preference is for a primary parent, and it is one factor of many that the court considers when deciding what is in that child's best interest.
