Question

How many times can the prosecuter ask for a continuences? Because of insufficient evidence. Legally?

Answer

That's up to the judge. If you have a problem with that, you should either address this with your lawyer or hire a new lawyer.

Answer

You are asking the wrong question. the prosecutor can ask for a continuance as frequently as he likes. the defense attorney is obligated to oppose the applications by moving for a date certain; a try or dismiss date or moving for a speedy trial. The judge is obligated to take reasonable steps to protect the constitutional rights of the defenfant when the appropriate defense motion is made.
