Does RESPA or any other regulator require that a home seller be given a HUD-1 settlement statement prior to the closing by the settlement agent or the seller's attorney?
The seller's attorney added $20,000 in legal fees not related to the real estate transaction. The seller was not given the statement by his attorney until the sit down
when the unexpected fees were discovered.
Answer
This would be a matter between the seller and his or her attorney. RESPA would not enter into this.
