Question

I live in California and have rented my home from the same person for over 13 years. At the time of the original lease, I paid a $350 security deposit. Now, my landlady wants me to pay an additional $200 in security deposit, as she put it, this is "reasonable and customary" to bring the deposit up to match my rent. Is this legal?

Answer

Yes, entirely legal, although having lived in the unit more than a year she must give you 60-days notice before you have to pay.
