When a case is brought to a grand jury, does the defendant have the right to be notified that proceedings are taking place?
Answer
In a word, no.
If the case was bound over to the grand jury at General Sessions court, the Defendant can predict when the grand jury will meet and can contact the foreperson of the grand jury and ask to give testimony, but it is up to the grand jury whether or not to call any particular witness, even the Defendant who may volunteer.
