If a person is terminated for misconduct can the company release this information?

Question

If a person is terminated for misconduct can the company release this information?

Answer

No law prohibits an employer from telling third parties the reason a person left the company. Employers should be quite careful here as to what they say, in order to limit their risk of exposure to claims for defamation.
