My child's father and I have alternating years for claiming our child on taxes. Can I claim our child if the father does not file in the year he has a right to?
Answer
Yes, you certainly may. It is best to first get his written permission for same through an IRS tax form 8332. Here's a link: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8332.pdf. Best of luck!
Answer
Yes, you can, so long as you make sure that he is not going to file a return later on and that you get his permission in writing.
