Question

I am filing for an reduction in child support as my eldest daughter is graduating from college. I have another daughter (age 19) currently attending college. My former wife is remarried and her husband is paying $1,000 towards to mortgage and all utilities for their home. My income is$69,000 and my former wife's income is $50,000. Does the fact that her new husband is contributing to the mortgage and household utilities/food matter?

Answer

Her spouse's income is technically irrelevant to child support - but because the judge has more discretion in determining child support amounts for children 18 plus, I may be worth arguing.
