My company has a California judgment against a Trust that owns a house in Illinois. We have been unable to collect the judgment and are considering getting a lien on the Illinois house. Does Illinois recognize foreign judgments for that purpose? If so, what forms must I fill out and where can I file them?
Answer
The judgment has to be registered with the court. If there is a company that is the judgment creditor it must be done by a lawyer. Illinois law requires that a corporation act through an attorney. It can not act pro se.
