Since a case was aquitted for murder in a state court can they be tried for a lesser charge in federal court?

Question

Since a case was aquitted for murder in a state court can they be tried for a lesser charge in federal court?

Answer

In some cases, it is possible. Casey Anthony, for example, probably can't be tried in federal court because they have no jurisdiction to do so. On the other hand, the officers who beat Rodney King were tried and acquitted in state court, but then tried again in federal court for a federal criminal civil rights charge. So, most of the time the answer is no, but again it is occassionally possible.
