What are the implications of social influence for individuals and organizations?
Social influence can be defined as when a persons own opinions, beliefs, or behaviors are influenced by other people's opinions, beliefs, and behaviors. When social influence begins affectingindividuals it can lead to compliance, identification, andinternalization. Within an organization these individuals may feelpeer pressure to conform against their own desires in order to 'fitin.' They may comply and keep their beliefs to themselves. This canlead to dissatisfied employees. People may identify with leaders ofthe organization and this could lead to employee's acting in amanner, in contrast to their own beliefs, in order to seek approvalfrom the superior. Or employees may internalize and accept thebeliefs of another and agree completely. However, if individualsever look back in hindsight and feel their viewpoints weremanipulated by an organization they could harbor resentment.
