Question

I financed a motorcycle for my boyfriend, he has been unable to pay for the motorcycle. I have been making the payments in order to save my credit. How can I legally get this motorcycle out of my name?

Answer

Transferring the motorcycle out of your name will not release from the responsibility to pay the debt. It is unlikely that the creditor will allow you to be removed from liability for the debt. The debt would have to be paid off to remove you from the debt. Selling the motorcycle may produce sufficient money to pay off the loan. Your boyfriend could refinance the motorcycle and pay off your debt. Transferring the motorcycle out of your name only reduces the amount of control you have over the motorcycle. The full amount of the loan may become due and payable when the motorcycle is transferred to your boyfriend.
