A travel allowance is a specific amount of money for travel. In some places a business person, or a even an entire department, will be allocated a specific budget for travel expenses. In general terms when talking about hiring, a travel allowance indicates that there is travel involved and that the company expects to cover the reasonable costs, as specified in their travel policy.
