Why Singapore is called the city of lions?

Why Singapore is called the city of lions?
It's actually called the "Lion City" because someone supposedly saw a lion wandering on the shores after arriving on the island escaping a storm. However, lions have never lived in Singapore, so it was most likely a tiger that the person saw.
